etievan model: the story
Origin
Nathalie Etievan , daughter of Jeanne and Alexandre de Salzmann, was a translator, pilot, journalist, broadcaster and painter, but above all, a natural born educator . She spent her childhood and youth in France alongside George I. Gurdjieff. His example, expressed in the proposal of Inner work for the development of the conscious being, would mark her life forever.
The foundations of the Model
The experience of these years brought the foundations of the Etievan Educational Model , which integrates the development of the body, mind and feeling in the search for self-awareness. From there, Ms. Nathalie dedicated her life to supporting adults, teens and children to become more aware of their own inner capabilities and apply them to their lives.
Early 1950's
She arrives in Latin America and takes up residence in Venezuela. She founded the Gurdjieff Work Groups in Caracas and thus began to carry out her work in the education of adolescents and adults in several countries, including Brazil.
1970
The model appears
The formulation of the Etievan Educational Model begins. She defined the principles to create an educational model, which she took into practice and her own experience , with the aim of promoting the awakening of self- awareness only accessible when body, mind and feeling are in harmony .
1973
The first Etievan school
Along teachers and parents interested in bringing this knowledge into their lives, Ms. Nathalie founded the first school in Venezuela (Unidad Educativa Los Hipocampitos).
New Schools
Between 1980 and 1990, together with several teachers and parents, she founded new schools in Colombia, Peru, Chile and Ecuador.
In addition to schools, she carried out other educational projects in which children, adolescents and adults worked together.
1989
She publishes her book Not Knowing Is Formidable: Education for the Awakening of Consciousness and the Development of Feeling .
1993
The model in Brazil
An effort begins in order to start training adolescents and adults through practical and immersive experiences in different artistic languages, crafts, coexistence and collaborative work, as a practical means of education and preparation for all the stages of life .
2000
Education in Nature
She carries out a new educational project in which young adults from different countries worked in a self-sustainable model in nature and worked with children at the school in the city of Paují, in Gran Sabana (Venezuela).
2007
A legacy for education
Mrs. Nathalie, founder of the Etievan model, passes away. Her students continue their work in different Latin American countries.
2012
Centros Etievan Association
The Centros Etievan Association is founded in Brazil, initiating projects aimed at the elderly and families, expanding its activities to adolescents and adults. Thus, the “ Red Sea ”, “ Kiu-pa ” and the “ School for Parents” were born.
2015
School of Arts and Crafts
Some of the adolescents and adults who had these experiences engaged in ongoing training as educators with the association's founders. With the team thus constituted, since 2015 Centros Etievan promotes workshops for children in Arts and Crafts , both in the form of immersions and in partnership with public schools and private schools in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte .
2017
Preparing the space
A project to adapt the space at the headquarters in São Paulo begins, for the creation of the School of Arts & Crafts .
2021
Etievan Cultural Center
Approval of the PROMAC Notice for the implementation of the Etievan Cultural Center in the city of São Paulo, to host the Etievan Model School of Arts & Crafts .
2022
A legacy for society
The Etievan Model is recognized and integrates research at the University of Sorbonne , which aims to create a collection on Etievan Education and the publication of a book with the experiences of people who live or have lived the educational model, leaving a record of this legacy for society.(Learn more )
